Victor Chin broke his silence yesterday, three days after police and the Securities Commission raided his properties and seized vehicles belonging to his company.

“Yes, there is a corporate mafia in this country,” Chin said in an emailed statement to Bloomberg.

“But I am not the corporate mafia.”

His turnaround was fast: the raid happened on Friday and by Monday morning, Chin had a full seven-page statement ready for the newswire.

While the context has been intense scrutiny on his dealings over recent months, Chin’s response warrants closer examination: it was lawyered, measured, and perfectly timed.
