It just dawned on me that today’s the last day of January. More like just a few more minutes left to February! Gosh, the first month of 2026 flew by very quickly.

Typically, I’ll have a recap of some of the best stories from the month, something I’ll push out ASAP.

What better way to usher in February than with a quick review? So that’s for Sunday evening.

Southeast is a weekly section where I track money and power in the region. In many ways this is somewhat a detox from purely Malaysian content but one that also helps me see the bigger picture.

The Malaysianist runs on subscriptions. Fuel up with a monthly, annual or founding member plan.

P.S. The founding member tier doesn’t have a ceiling; you can go as high as you want — it’s the ultimate supporter badge and it comes with an exclusive section called Brainjam, where you get bangers like this 👇🏾

And, yes, you can upgrade subscription tiers at any time.

Mulling a group purchase for family, friends and colleagues? I’ve got you. Group subscriptions come with discounts, too.

Indonesia and Malaysia take the cake today with more muted developments for the region’s families, though Thailand’s turning out to be pretty interesting in terms of succession planning.

Let’s get to it.
