KWAP’s next boss has plenty to prove

Can Malaysia's civil servants’ pensions fund deliver on its ambitions?

I caught up with an old friend yesterday. We were schoolmates in primary school and somehow kept in touch all these years.

When I catch up with peers that old, conversations revolve around high blood pressure and diabetes (our pet NCDs), keeping an eye out for our ageing parents, raising kids, ruing the missed opportunity to migrate or being thankful we didn’t.

There’s an air of frailty, especially from me. When I meet old friends I instinctively give them a hug.

Gone are the days where I’d begin with whatever ridiculous hand gesture or fist bump with a “Yo, what’s up?!” Writing this itself sounds old and cringey.

We’re no longer the brash twentysomethings who believed the world could and should bend to our will.

These days we’re clinging to religion and pickleball (not me, this one) to extend our time here on earth.

What’s the word again? Adulting…

Among all the GLICs, Retirement Fund Inc (KWAP) is getting most of the attention these days — and not just for its investment moves.

The succession question has been an open secret for months.
