I’m going to experiment with some filler content in between newsletters. I noticed there’s a decent lag time between one edition to the other.

So I’m trying something new to stay top of mind — a filler of sorts, but with some meat. It’s called Brainjam, and it’s exclusive to founding members.

What’ll happen is this: I’ll pick a topic or two weekly and founding members will get to comment, weigh in, swap strategies, and maybe even disagree.

This’ll be the only place where subscribers can actively chime in. Think of it as the comments section done right.

The best part is comments are behind a paywall. Only founding members can see and engage with them. So there’s that added layers of exclusivity and privacy, too.

It’s what a digital publication is essentially all about. But I have been averse to comments as I worked at the now-defunct The Malaysian Insider (TMI) and experienced firsthand the painful job of deleting hundreds of pointless and defamatory vitriol.

(Think: Najib and his wife Rosmah pre-2018.)

Traumatic, to say the least. However I do hope this won’t turn into a dumpster fire. Also defamation, as they say, is a rich man’s tort.

Brainjam will run for four weeks. If it works, it stays. If it doesn’t, I’ll kill it and move on.

Today’s jam discusses the heatwave we’re facing and Sarawak’s unending passive-aggressive exchange with Putrajaya over control of the state’s oil and gas resources.
